Gorgany
The component part includes pristine old beech forests with a natural dynamic and a complete inventory of species. It thus represents the heritage of humankind with extraordinary features. The beech itself determines growth and decay in the forest. Spruce and Swiss pine communities as well as lichen and moss-rich scree fields with crooked mountain pines form species-rich mosaics in the forest. The key to biodiversity is the high proportion of dead wood, with an army of species that live in it, complemented by endemic species.
