Zacharovanyi Krai
These pristine beech forests with beech trees between 250 and 280 years of age are located on the foothills of the Eastern Carpathians. Unlike the Carpathian primeval beech forests of Slovakia, they grow on volcanic rock. Unique forest communities close to mires, rocks, and boulder fields are the result. Pure beech forests prevail. These are complemented by sycamore-beech forests and other mixed forest types. Of the 1,500 animal species identified so far, numerous are endemic.
