Havešová

The Havešová National Nature Reserve is situated in the far east of the Slovak Republic, in the Bukovské Mountains (“Beech Mountains”!). This beech forest has the tallest beech trees in the world. On the fertile Brown Earth soils, the beech trees reach a height of up to 56 metres. The beech dominates this area due to the favourable conditions for its growth. Only three other tree species exist in this area: sycamore, ash, and wych elm.
